Cultivator C-tines

I bought this cultivator yesterday. It was sort of a bugger to get hooked up on my Eagle Hitch but with some tinkering I did get it hooked up and funcitoning properly.

Some of the C-tines were already sprung and my field is quite rocky so I expected some casualties. I broke three tines on the first couple passes. Once I got the feel for pulling it, slowed down a little, and got the depth figured out there were no more breaks.

Now I'm having trouble finding new C-tines. Any suggestions? Could I mount a different style tine?

The drag works very well also. It can be flipped up and chained up if not in use.

I believe this is a homemade piece. It has no tags, markings, or numbers that I can find. Has anyone seen another like it?

JMHO --- looks like a home made frame (good job) with c-tines from a spring tooth harrow. Maybe look for an old spring tooth to salvage tines?? HTH

Derrick,

I am pretty sure that, as Sheepdog said, those are spring tooth harrow tines. They also appear to be the same type that John Deere used. The ends where Deere teeth attach to the frame are straight and are held by brackets to a square frame while IH teeth have a compound curve that wraps part way around the round frame and are slotted for a bolt and bracket .

Two years back I found a source back east through Google, wish I could remember it for you, that had new IH teeth for $25 each + or - plus shipping.

My best answer was Craig's list and local auctions to acquire a few used harrow sections to salvage. A good blacksmith or spring shop could make them too but I think the cost would be prohibitive.

With some thought, money and work you could probably convert it to use the more modern S tines. Good luck Don

Problem solved:O)

I put on some S-tines in place of the c-tines. It works better than I could ever have hoped.

I'll put up some pics later.

Thanks for the input on this problem.
