Bobby, in addition to the information the other posters gave, one way to tell for sure if your blades are tight to the gang is if they ring when you strike them. If they "thunk" they are not tight. They will turn as a unit and ring when they are struck if everything is right. Hope this helps. Mike

If its real loose, Shoup sells a big washer, that is shaped like a disc blade, applies spring pressure to suck the axle tight to the last disc. If your spacers are wore out, you may have to weld them up, and grind them down in the right shape, to get the gang tight.

Hopefully, you will be able to simply tighten the nut on the end of your shaft. However, a problem that we used to have with our old disks is that you can sometimes not tighten nut on the end of the axle due to being out of threads on the end of the axle. This is due to a combination of: the axle stretching a little bit, blades thinning some due continued use with them spinning on shaft, and the spacer hubs thinning some again to running while loose.
To fix this, you may need to washer the end of your shaft to get enough threads to tighten. Sometimes a traditional big flat washer will not work either. For anywhere that you might need a contoured shaped shim washer or a square hole type washer, then we would simply cut washers shims from our old broken disk blades that we kept around in our scrap pile - these usually worked best. We could usually get a well worn disk usable again with this method and the price was right - free.

They should not rotate individually- the nut on the shaft needs to be tightened. Make sure the blades are clean, if dirty, they will work loose again when the soil particles crumble into dust.
