I am trying to get two of my hesston 555 belts rolled back over. Somehow they got rolled now we cant get them apart. Do I need a special tool?
Or do I need a Lacer?

out on the back 40 one time on a sunday and ran out of the lacing pins. i put in a piece of brazing rod and bent the ends over so they would stay in place. they out lasted the wire cable type of pins by many many bales. i never used anything else after that, but the brazing rods. one thing when putting new staples in a belt. always grind in ribs on the belt off where the lacing is going to be put. the ribbing built on to some belts will create enough pressure on the lacing tofor ce the staples to spread and come off ease. i use a side grinder to grind mine off with. just don't let it eat to much off.

well after 3 or 5 hours of work we managed to get the belts disconnected, untangled. Now to get the pins back in the belts. We have tried a little of everything. Got one pin almost all the way in except about an inch. Any Ideas?? I only have about 3 inches of slack in the belts. I need more.

In the first Vermeer I had, I would pick the tailgate all the way up/open; get up on top and chain one of the pressure rolls to a cross member; let the tailgate down; would have as much slack as needed. After a few thousand bales, the clips would be so 'mashed' together that it was impossible to put pins back in without a lacing machine. Can't imagine having a 'belt' baler without one.

i have a lacing machine. It looks like I'm gonna have to get that thing out. Also in another reply someone said welding rod. I have thought about that. that may be our next try, just to get the unbaled hay out of the fields. I got enough slack in the belts now too. Thanks to all for the help!

I have a Hesston 530. Not sure about the 555, but the 530 has pins on either side. You open the gate, insert the pins, let down the gate and it takes the pressure off the belts. Then you could either flip the belt over or take the wire pins out of the belt and remove it.

If the lacing is like all the rest I have seen they use a pin to hold the two laces together. Take the tension off then use a small punch to drive the pin out. Pin/lacing has to be nice and straight and the pin cant have any bends or it will jam up.

Not familiar with Hesston, but..... ..... do whatever it takes to relieve the pressure/get some slack in the belts and just turn 'em back over.
