Ford 532 baler

Well,I have been busy like the rest of you. I have my Massey up and running and put 1,151 bales thru her.

My neighbor has a Ford 532 that has quit tying properly. I don't know much about this baler and I don't know what he knows about it either.
He has been on the backend tying them by hand until we can get up what has been on the ground.

I think he is used to John Deere equipment. We don't have a manual to go thru.
I offered him the use of my baler, but I think it mighta rubbed him wrong(his baler, not me). The problem is that there is a considerable distance to get mine over there.
I would like to be of some kind of help. He made mention of welding up the knotters and then grinding them back to shape.

Ay of you folks got a 532?

Thank you!

The first thing he needs is an operators manual. I think he'll find that it's about 20 bucks from NewHolland. That will detail how to set up the knotters.
Quick things to look for on those knotters is play in the bill hooks, check that the knot strippers keep close proximity to the bill hook as they pass (they should just graze the hook), and check the tension on the bill hook finger and the twine tension. Beyond that rust on the bill hooks is often a culprit to a 532 that won't tie. A lot fewer problems also result if you keep that baler DEAD ON 540 or 90 strokes per minute. Not 545. Not 535. 540!
Otherwise if he needs knotter parts, contact a NewHolland dealer. I think you'll find that most parts are available for the knotter.
I wouldn't even consider welding up the bill hooks in that thing for the misery that's involved with that and the time it takes to set them on a 90 degree day.... Replace them.

But tell him to get the bloody book FIRST!

I agree on getting a manual! I got one for my massey and it was the best money spent!
I will pass on the information. He has been baling for the last week and a half and it was doing just fine until yesterday.
I know he will be one tired puppy after today from doing it all by hand!
I didn't go over there to help today so I don't know what the status is. I think he would have gotten all the hay up and still be able to study the problem.
There is some rain due in tonight.
I didn't know you can still get parts for this particular baler as I have no clue as to how old it is.

Thank you for your help! I might drive over there tomorrow and see what I can find out.

I have a 532, plus a 250 (I"ve had it since "84)which has essentially the identical knotters. Have a lot of experience and have helped a number of other people get theirs going. Contact me via email with your friend"s email so I can send him 532 knotter info in Pdf format.

Rod is correct. Tell him to get the book and read it. You cant help tightwads, who own equipment, tear it up, and then want help - and - STILL havent bought the Operator Manual and the Parts Manual. When folks ask for my help, the first words out of my mouth is "do you have the manuals?" If answer is no, then I tell to get the manuals and I will devote whatever time it takes to fix their problem, but that I am simply not going to waste my time without the manauls. BTDT too many times. Tom

Thanks, guys! I will see how he is doing probably tomorrow. I had to take care of things here today.
This is a great place! :D

Well guys, he baled up a 100 bales and it did great except for 3 or 4 that didn't come out right. I think that maybe he had a bad batch of twine. What he has is brand new,but I think there was a spot of bad twine in that mix.
He didn't say that he changed anything. A manual is on its way. Thank you for the help! :D
