Cutting square corners.

Can square corners be made when using a sickle bar mower that is mounted in front the rear wheel like the Farmall Cub? If so what is the technique that is used?

You would have to back up in an arc using the end of the bar as the centerpoint of the radius which you backed into and then when you bar was straight with the edge of the cut yopu could proceed forward. Or you could just live with the little bit of unmowed whatever in the corners

It can be done, same as a semi-mount or three point, when bar
gets almost to end crank the wheel hard and jam on the turning
brake. With practice it works.

And it's kinda fun to learn how, I would compare it to barrel racing or working a good cutting horse, it takes a lot of practice.

I can almost cut square corners with my 1755 Oliver and a pull type sickle . Not the same I know but the 1755 is a big tractor . I stopped doing it because those 18.4's chew up a lot of real estate on each corner when I jammed on the brake ! I use a moco now and still make somewhat square corners but without using the brake . It's all a matter of timing . If you're cutting at 5+mph it all happens REAL fast . Good luck ! ...Randy
