Rust On Old Combine

After harvest yesterday I cleaned up my old John Deere model 42 combine very well. Several places show quite a bit of rust. Would you buy Rustoleum sp? primer and then green paint or just spray with some kind of oil? Thanks for the replies. kelly

ASSUMING you will be using it again, maybe spray graphite or ''soft plow paint''?

(Deere # TY25637)

Upon revisiting this, did you clean it up after use and want to preserve some areas where the flow of material has worn the paint off, or has in been sitting unused and lost paint in other areas and rust has set in?

Having owned combines that had to stand outside, I can sympathize with anyone who has to deal with rust.
Last October, when on a road trip with a son, this combine caught my eye as we had one identical to it back in the 50's-60's. It looked to be pretty well preserved; the drive tires appeared to be holding air and the decals were pretty much visible. The header was the only thing showing much damage. But.....this was in western Kansas where rain/snow fall is pretty scant.
