JD 4420 combine questions

I currently have a Gleaner F2 combine that is a hydro drive with a 438 corn head and a 13 bean and wheat header
The gleaner is not in the best of shape but does a good job for our smaller farming needs
I ran across a John Deere 4420 diesel combine today that I have the opportunity to buy but I have never owned or operated a John Deere before
My questions are will the 4420 be close in comparison to the F2
Is it as easy to work on, will it clean the grain as good as the gleaner, is setup for different crops as easy
The JD comes with a 213 grain header but I will need to find a 4 row 38" corn header for it
What models headers fit and are they hard to find
The John Deere looks to be in quite a lot better shape than my current gleaner
Any advice is appreciated

A 444 corn head should be easy to find. I don't believe the 4420 ever had a hydrostatic transmission option. You'll have to get used to the cab being
offset with the engine alongside. I've worked on both and there are some things that are not as accessible on the Deere as they are on the Gleaner.

Capacity wise, they are pretty close....both around 100 hp and 36 inch
cylinder. Both will do a very good job in almost any crop with the proper
adjustments and operation. The Gleaner is easier to work on, parts may be
easier to get for the Deere. Condition and prior maintenance are by far the
biggest determining factors in any combine purchase.

That deere is not as durable as the larger
sizes as all the tin is thinner. A 6600 or
6620 is a much better machine or long
life. A 4400 or 4420 is getting pretty
worn out by 2500 hours. The gleaner would
he better in that regard. The 4420 is a
fine machine tho, and would be Close in
capacity.

I have had my gleaner for about 6 years
It has over 5500 hours on it and the meter wasn t working when I bought it
Like I said it s just very tired
The John Deere is in a lot better shape that s the only reason I m considering buying it
