Massey Ferguson 540

I'm looking into buying my neighbors Massey Ferguson 540 combine. Do any of yall know much about these combines? All I'm wanting to do is harvest a few acres of oats. Any input would help

I ran one for two or three years. While they dont have the best reputation for durability and ease of maintenance the only problem I had with mine in that time was a water pump. Look over the general condition of the machine, if belts, hoses, bearings, tires, rasp bars appear to be in good condition theres no reason it shouldnt be a serviceable combine for small acreage.

That should be a fine combine for oats.
Don't pay to much.

The engine in a 540 is a Perkins 318 cu in 4 cylinder diesel. When the combine is junk, the engine are always Wanted for use in tractors. So keep that in mind. This adds to the value of the combine.
