IHC 715 combine header auger

I have a 810 header, 13ft. on my 715. The auger in the header is rusted through pretty bad and has plenty of patches on it, and a finger or 2 is missing in the center. I have an old style header, the one where the feeder house and the header are all one piece, with a pristine auger. It may be folly but how do you go about removing the auger from the header? It looks like a ton of work and I don't know if it's worth the effort. The pristine header is otherwise headed for the scrap yard - seems a shame to let that nice auger go while continuing to use the rusted out one. Might be a good off season project?
 
Swapping them is certainly doable.

You either have to take an end sheet off of the platform or remove the shaft the operates the retractable fingers and swing that end out first.

You should be able to go in through the access holes on the end opposite the drive and remove the bolts that hold the plates that hold the shaft and slide them in the get the auger out.
 
do yourself a huge favor and get a 1020 head. the 810 is a junk head. ran one on my 715 and then upgraded to the 1020. ran my 715 for 10 years last 3 years was with the 1020. the 1020 is now on my 1620. the 715 is by far the worst piece of equipment that i ever owed.

Thanks for the info. Just going to be a matter of ambition. It's a bit of a folly, I'm sure the auger as it is will outlive me and be fine. Just seems wrong to pitch a good auger and retain a bad one. As for Duane, I'm sure we could get a lively discussion over what is the worst piece of equipment ever owned. In my case, the 715 hardly qualifies, LOL
 
I had one and it wasn't the worst. Mine was an older model and had some issues, but got the job done.
