I need to take the header off my Gleaner E to fix the beater drum. There is not a level place around and I want it out of the way-No header stand-just blocks. Would it be best to have it heading up hill or on a side hill? Thinking about how hard it will be to put back on without help? Brakes aren't great but I think the park brakes works. Best brake for me is shutting engine off and leaving in gear. Cleddy

It works best for me (Gleaner F2) to have the header pointed uphill but level left to right. Just put a couple pallets under the front by the cutter bar on each side so the back of the header sits lower than the front. I do this when I drop off the grain head to put on the corn head. The grain head goes back on after corn for double crop beans. Combine goes in the shed with the grain header on, corn head sits outside but I made a cover for it using scrap lumber and metal roofing sheets.
I have the old style with the 4 pins. Header is off and nothing easy about it. This machine hasn't been used since 1993-94 and everything is rusted solid. My Dad modifyed everything so that did not help-Even had a lever in cab to tension the header drive belt. Extra hydralic control to lower-lift reel in motion.
Looking at beater drum the shaft is broke at the sprocket so that explains that not working. Beater drum is missing all the rubber bearngs for the pegs and at one time must have cut the drum in half as it is really welded back together. Now I can see what wore out means-with a parts machine there may not be enough parts to fix it back up?? Cleddy
