L3 Rear Wheel Assist

So, got the L3 home last weekend and spent the last week fixing a few minor things (hoses, a.c, etc.), servicing machine and corn head, and started combining Mon. evening. Everything went well until I tried out the rwa. It has a Gilcrest pusher axle. I engaged the hubs as the brochure/manual said, then flipped the switch in the cab. Hydro response became erratic. The machine was slow to pick up speed, then it would pick up speed all at once - then it would lose momentum. Then it may pick back up. It worked like that for several minutes, but as I got the bin 2/3 full and started up a slight incline, forward speed slowed to 1.8 mph with the hydro lever nearly full forward. I took it out of gear then and ran in 2wd and the hydro responded like it should. I know you lose ground speed w/the rear axle engaged, but how this acted couldn't have been right. Is there anything that needs adjusting or fixed? Never had rwa before, so this is all new to me.

BTW - the old, obsolete Eddins auger wagon is working great!

4435 - Wanted to follow up with you and thank you again. I got the phone number from Gilcrest's website. Talked to Jack and he corrected something the previous owner told me. P.O. said to push in the plunger
in the middle of the hub to engage it. That was backwards. You push in the 2 outer plungers to engage the hub, and push in the center to disengage. Once I got that right, things started working - as far as I
can tell. I could definitely feel the rear axle engage and the hydro acted right. Your help is much appreciated.
