using an ac 72 all crop for flax

My son has that very combine. We have not done flax .
I suggest that it be set up in the manual for flax.
With out our book I don’t know which screen, wind, cylinder speed and concave clearance .
It a good machine you should well if set up is done ✅

do you have toput filler plates on the cyl like i see in my bookon the ih 82... and haverheard of crusher rollsahead of concave...

We put in an acre of it a few years ago and actually took it standing with our 72. I thought it did a nice job, if you have any holes in the machine you will find them! I know the 60 and 66 combines required
flax rollers. Not sure if ones could be fitted on a 72 or if that feeder beater will help it feed alright.

am used to swathing and picking up....that should help thin weeds out and dry it up more. but on cyl do you need filler plates like in the ih 82

Filler plates were never made for the AC 60, 66, 72 or 90. Bottom of cylinder is sollid, no holes like a Deere or Massey that let things thru the concave before it gets far enough to threash out the grain and without those in the Massey It put all the clover heads through those holes. Holes are used for wheat. AC had no holes so no problem with grain being pushed through the concave like the others. And I don't know what flax is but had 3 different AC 60 combines over the years. 72 same cylinder seperator area, just a different pickup.

flax an oil seed largly for linseed oil... and straw for linnen /linolium the oil cake was back fed to livestock gee had omega3 eggs and not knew it at least in canada...Flax... a very small seed in comparison to say wheat, barley oats...just like to hear pointers from many curious if roasting any benifit or better to grist into your cows grain in a course grist.

So it sounds like about the size of timothy or red clover ot even alfalfa. And for those you would need the filler bars in the Massey the way way th concaved were made but the AC was not made like that so no place to put filler bars.

When I started farming Dad and I both had 140 IHC pull type combines. His had flax rolls ahead of the cylinder to smash the flax bolls before the cylinder to do a better job of threshing. His would do a better job of knocking the seeds out of the boll than mine would. Some years the straw was prone to wrapping on the rolls. On those occasions I was glad not to have them.

interesting....my 82...have filler plates for threshing cyl...but ac not require them on theirs....had my plates made at local amish metal shop...

yes a very fine seed... like buckwheat...my intentions are to swath....then pick up...but preping for feeding...would roasting do anything for you...
