I pass by this Model 76 Combine often and was thinking about seeing if it was for sale. It's been parked outside for a long time. Don't know how hard it would be to get it going. One guy told me that I would be better off trying to find a McCormick Model 80 or 81, which he said is a better combine. What do you think?

Don't know about a 76 but I had an 80 and loved it. The 80 does not have canvass. I liked that. The down side of an 80 is it does not have much capacity. It was big enough for me at the time.

I'm not worried much about capacity, as long as it does a good job. How much PTO horsepower does it take to run an 80? I may not have a large enough tractor.

When just out of high school I did custom combining ,oats, for a few neighbors with our model 64 using a D-17 Allis with plenty of power. Also did soybeans in fall.

I had one that I used for years. Nice machine. I have an 82 now.

You do not need much HP to run it. 30-40 will do.

They are kind of heavy. If you are on hills, a larger tractor, OR some weights will help.

Have fun!

Just got back from looking at a 76 in N.C. Wi.....Inside but ....paint very poor.....belts all shot......feeder canvas needed replaced...3 guards missing....some boots on elevator bottoms needed replacing . Seller wanted $950....told him I'd think about it......NOT !!
