I restored a rusty special JD 12A once that way. Never again will I do that. Since then I've bought all my antique combines shedded or running. Just easier.

I try finding a good one and I did. Talked to an old farmer that had a JD 95 and he told me that his son was going to festered it. Years later it went to the scrap.

Glad to see someone else who likes combines as much as I do . That?s quite an undertaking to rebuild one .
