JD 300 picker

Wow, I didnt know anyone was still making pickers in the 80s. Pretty neat.

One of my uncles bought one. I only saw pictures but I thought it looked really good for an old corn picker. Guess it's a lot newer than I thought it was. He said it would take up to a 4 row head, which I also didnt know. It has a 2 row head now that he's going to use to make sure everything works right.

A three row was as big as it would take. Does a good job if the brushes over the husking rolls are good. Mine are wore down and deere wants way to much for new ones. There is a farmer in Lancaster PA that specializes in 300 pickers that has lots of new and better parts for them. The combine head shells much less corn than a New Idea picker. We use the two row head off the picker on our chopper to make snaplage. Tom

New Idea was made into the 80s also I believe. NI was more popular around here.

JD was a much better header (the 2 or 3 row combine header), the NI had a better busker setup.

Well, NI made the self propelled units even later, they started speculating into silage and sweet corn at the end.

I've got a 1987 "Long Green Line" equipment catalog and there is still 300 Pickers advertised in it. Not sure how long after that they were built. I'd love to have one to use myself with the 343 head I have.
