Turning a hay chopper into a hay fluffer/tedder/inverter

I saw someone turn an old New Holland round baler into a hay fluffer by removing the back of the machine and only having the pickup head function.

I was wondering if a similar thing could be done to an older hay chopper? Could the chopper part be taken off and use only the head to pickup and fluff the hay? I ask because I know where a very inexpensive one is and I would like to attempt something like the machine in the video.
 
An old hay conditioner would so as well or better for most hay and be cheaper. They are easy to find. They are harder on alfalfa and other leafy crops, so may not work for you.
 
The chopper is $50. I was thinking for that price, it is scrap but it might be something usable in another form. I was wondering what would be involved in the cutter/chopper off?
 
He also has a couple of Hesston hay heads that are belt driven on the lower left side. How hard would it be to get one of those to be converted to ground driven to act as a fluffer?
 
Unless you have a supply of steel, belts, and other stuff your talking hundreds, and easily over a thousand dollars to get one set up. For the chopper you will need something to convey the hay from the pickup over the frame to the rear. With just the pickup you will need to fabricate a frame with wheels and a drive. You could make it hydraulic drive which would be easier and more adjustable.
 
I made a fluffer out of a JD 4 belt windrow pickup- mounted on the 3ph and had a hyd swivel on it so I could lay windrows over an equal amount all across the field. This was when I cut with a swather.

Powered it with a hyd motor with variable speed. Pix are in archives.
