3300 Carb Issue

Carb issue on JD 3300. Was cutting seed yesterday and engine started acting up. No power and would not rev up much. Shut down and looked it over this AM. The fuel solenoid on bottom of carb had lost the plug out of bottom and a small needle type valve with spring too. There is no wire on the solenoid so not working. I could not get it back on proper so put the needle part in the ashtray and just put the plug back in and ran fine. Any problems with leaving out the parts? LB

IMHO, the main purpose of those solenoids was to shut of gas flow through the main jet when the ignition was turned "off", preventing a muffler "backfire" of unburned gas when shut down HOT.

If it has been working with the wire missing, it was already disabled, and it will operate no differently now than before.

(Always a good idea to let a HOT engine idle a couple of minutes to cool before shutdown, anyhow.)
