automatic header height control

I finally bought an IH 1020 flex head. Couple of questions. One...should this have a set of locking pins to make it rigid? Picking it up Saturday and would like to know.

Second, I don't really understand how AHHC actually works. Is there a sensor or such that detects the ground lever or ???? I know it has an electrical connection. Three wire plug. Just not real clear what tells the combine to raise or lower the head?

There are several arms which pivot at the rear of the header, upon which the cutterbar hangs. I think there are six on my 20' header. For rigid use, they are locked up with little brackets, with two carriage bolts each. As they didn't come with my used header, I bought them new from CNH. The whole left end/drive mechanism is locked up with a turnbuckle. Pretty sure manual shows a picture.

There is a bar which crosses the entire header. It has an indicator in the right end. There are little tabs on the bar which contact each one of the aforementioned arms. As they move up and down they turn the bar, which in turn moves a cable, or linkage, if updated, which comes up to the little switch [potentiometer] visible on the back of the header.

Thanks, Bob! Any chance you could find a link to what you bought? I was just over on the parts lookup page and could not find it. I'm thinking there must be a picture somewhere of what these look like so I can describe them to the seller and hopefully get my hands on them.

Oh boy...wonder where that email ended up. I used to have trouble with the aol address I used for work so I changed it to gmail on here. Sometimes gmail comes thru...maybe days later? Thanks for the help, Bob. I will see can I find it. Going to go pick up the head tomorrow. Hope he has those brackets.

I didn't send through here. I just looked and the e-mail that's in my mail program for you is AOL. You want to forward me a different e-mail address?
