Gleaner K search is over.

My Gleaner K search has finally ended. I bought a 1978 K2 thats about 200 miles from me. Its not in pristine condition but it is workable and can be fixed up. Runs good and nothing major wrong with it that I saw. Steering brakes dont work and it just needs some TLC here and there.
It has a 10' rigid head which is what I was primarily looking for. So far the head is the only thing I have brought home. Im going back for the combine in a couple weeks if the weather allows.
I would like to find a 330 corn head for it some time.

My steering brakes on my K don't work either, if your K2 has a transmission brake (to the left of the steering brakes) use it, the bands are much
cheaper than the steering brake bands.

Yes, it has all three pedals and the transmission brake seemed to work well. I still haven't gotten it home yet so haven't looked at the other two. I just know they didn't seem to work at all. Pedals went to the floor with no resistance.
I think those two are hydraulic aren't they. Sounds like you're saying they are a band around a drum on each wheel.

Correct. The trans brake is mechanical. The wheel brakes are hydraulic, expanding shoe-in-drum type, out next to the final drives. Thing is, the turning brakes are much more effective than the little trans brake. Hopefully some fluid/master cylinder work will get them going again.
