Been thinking about the 'new' SB55. Haven't yet decided to or not to. $2000 is a lot of money that I don't have. The old '58 55rb needs work.And one or two tires.Two/three years ago I rebuilt the reel,replaced some belts and did some other things. Then I just kind of dropped it,lost interest. I could do a lot of work for 2000. Doesn't need much in parts,just some time and TLC.Maybe I'd be better off to just fix the old machine,rather buy another.Even if it is a clean late model squareback.All I really need/want it for is for a bit of small grain and soybeans.5 to 10 acres of each.The old 55 also has a cab and 14' platform.Thoughts? Thanks.

If you go back to his original post he is also getting a 343 corn head and a quick tach feederhouse for the $2000. It is a good buy on the package if you need the package. I understand his issue of not wanting to spend that much as he has no use for the 343 head. Tom

What is the 343 head worth in your area? In my area with patience you could get almost $2000 for the head if it is good. With the current farm prices I understand not wanting to spend money as I passed on some good deals for the farm lately on stuff that would be nice but not necessary. Tom

Very true. I don’t want to know how much I have put into my old 55. It’s still cheaper then most repairs on a newer machine. I am currently working on buying two running machines right now. One will probably get parted out to keep the others going. It’s a shame but so many got scrapped when prices were up.

Saw a nice straight 300 JD picker with 343 head sell for $3500 this past weekend in northern IN.
