Are we talking about the hydrostatic motor, mounted to the transmission, and was the hose that blew connected to one of the directional relief valves on the valve block... there are two, and (IIRC) the lines from each run to a "T".
If this is the case, the valves the two small lines connect to (with a large hex head) can be swapped. (one is for forward and the other for reverse. Swap them, see if you lose forward, instead, then clean and reseal (if possible), or replace the offending valve.
They used either a Sundstrand or a Eaton moor, and while similar, they differ a bit in construction.
