6600 Refeeding Problem

Feeder house chain slip clutch slips. Seems there is soybean plugging due to refeeding. New A&I concave and rasp bars 150 acres ago. Soybean stalks are dry. Stone trap is packed full everytime a plug occurs which can be every 500 to 1000 feet. All fingers in the 215 flexhead auger and poly lined bottom. Feeder chain is tightened to spec, bottom drum set to lowest position and free to float. Feeder house bottom is smooth to the top. Beans are clean in the tank and no unthreshed pods and no cracked ones. Cylinder speed 500-550 rpm. Beater turning and has a new belt. Only thing I noticed tonight was the concave setting was in the corn range. Since changing the concave and freeing things up, the concave seems to open a bit by itself. Could this cause refeeding?......Ron

4520bw Thank-you for your reply. New JD clutch disks unless the spring is weakened. Quite a wad when you wrench it back out. This clean out door for the stone trap is just packed full, has got me wondering.......Ron

Take a hi-speed grinder and grind the edge flat on the auger flighting. Makes the auger feed more evenly than a round worn edge. Only takes a few minutes to put a new edge on the flights. Did it on my 220 flex and makes quite a difference.

casecollectorsc thank-you. Have done that in the past and maybe due again. One of Ray Steukle's many good ideas.....Ron

Well I would rest the concave clearance. With it too wide the bean stems can actually start to roll in front of the cylinder. Then they will catch the feeder house chain and refeed. The concave needs to be closer so the cylinder bars can grab and roll the stems through the concave.

So set it close enough to start to crack some beans. Then open it up some just until your no longer splitting many beans. Also unless you "set" the indicator to Zero when you put the new concave and bars in, you can not really go off of the numbers/ranges.

The backing off is the lock knob/mechanism not holding in the hand wheel in the cab. You need to check out what is wrong in there or the concave will keep opening. For a sort term "fix" clip a set of Vise Grips on the rod that drives the worm gear on the concave gear. They will hit the side sheet and stop the concave from backing off.

Thank-you JD Seller. Been thinking a lot about this and what you have outlined must be the problem. When doing the new A&I concave and bars, I leveled the concave as the adjuster and the frame on the left side was broken and the old concave was on a tilt. I also just checked the front-rear concave proportion with 3/16 inch at the second concave bar and the back just touching. I also "zeroed" the indicator pointer. I never really tightened the centre knob on the crank in the cab because it was so darn hard to move but after freeing up the adjusting controls I guess this is not the case now. I'll give this a try and report back. Rained here yesterday so went and talked with some good friends who run a lot of acres through some 20 series and they pointed me in the same direction as you have. Makes a person feel better and not so alone. Hope your operation is going well and no sick calves in the feedlot this fall. Much appreciated.......Ron
