John Deere 7720 combine speed

How fast should a Deere 7720 combine do in road gear? Hydrostatic. Drove it home from dealer the other day and it only topped out at 11 mph!!! They tell me the bigger ones don't go that fast, others tell me should do 15-20....opinions? Thanks.

Your book will tell you how fast the combine SHOULD go depending on what size tires it has on it. If I remember right the one I had would go up to about 15-16 but with rice tires you couldn't go that fast or it would skake you to death. If your combine won't travel that fast there are either belts out of adjustment or worn, engine speed not fast enough, hydrostatic cable stretched, or final drives not matched to the tire size you have. Also, if you have four wheel drive be sure the rear is not engaged. Mike

From a 4400 to a 7720? That's a pretty big step!
We got a 7700 this spring, I didn't drive it home so cant tell you how fast they run down the road. Know they aren't real fast.

Been several years but I am sure our 8820 would run over 16, and a few 6620 we ran would also do that. Bet hydro cable is stretched or out of adjustment.
