1926 Sunshine Combine With PICTURES

This is a 1926 Sunshine Combine self-propeld. The person that wants to sell it put quite a bit of time in the Wisconsin motor, transmission, and making everything move. The motor turns over just fine now with new hoses and spark plugs, But the engine is missing the carb and mag which the tag of the engine is the first picture. The wood is mostly good and the steel. The person has the heads for it at his place. The first thing I would like to know is how much is the combine worth and how rare is it? If I buy the combine the carb and mag would be the first thing I would try to buy and find, If anyone knows what carb or mag it take or where I can get one that would help out allot.

I searched through all my pics and can't find my pic of the Sunshine self-propelled combine at the Harold Warp museum in Minden, NE.

Does anyone else have a pic of that machine?

I'm surprised that the wood survived this long.

Found the Sunshine pic. This was taken at Harold Warp's museum in Minden, NE in 1968. The museum is now called Pioneer Village.

Model year unknown.

There's also one owned by the Manitoba Agricultural Museum, Austin Manitoba. It is paraded every day at their 3 day Threshermens Reunion at the end of July.

I remember seeing that combine every time I go through Pioneer Village. I always thought it was pretty interesting how it was designed. Guess I didn't remember it was a Sunshine.

Those where built here in Australia I only know of 1 self propelled one her at a local museum. Alot of pull ones around that are ether ground drive or pto driven but most have succumb to the weather or had parts scavenged to build/repair other things very hard to find one that is that complete. if i had the chance id buy it

Here are some photographs of a 1938 model KT Sunshine Autoheader taken at the World Ploughing Competitions near Highbank, Cnaterbury New Zealand in April 2010

The first Sunshine Auto Headers (headers because they only cut the heads off) were produced bu H.V. McKay in Sunshine, Melbourne, Australia, in 1924. The early headers used a Fordson engine but when Ford stopped producing tractors in 1926 they switched to using a Wisconsin 4 cylinder in-line water-cooled engine. The model WA, WT and WB Auto Headers had a 30 HP engine and 2 forward (3 mph, and 2 mph and 1 reverse gear 1.4 mph. The width of cut was 12 feet. In 1937 the improved KA and KT headers were produced with a 36 HP engine, a 3 speed gear box and a forward/reverse gear and a hand over-centre clutch. The platform raising and lowering were power operated and the cutting width was 12 or 14 feet though only the 12 foot cut headers were seen in New Zealand. All models were one-wheel drive, a pinion on the inside of the gear-box drove an internal ring gear on the 54 inch diameter 16 inch wide drive wheel inside the engine under the drivers seat. The grain wheel, 54 inch diameter and 6 inch wide was un-powered and the steering was at the back of the bagging platform with a single 30 inch diameter 9 inch wide wheel (all wheels were steel). To circumvent Australian import restriction Masssey-Harris brought into H.V.McKay in 1930 to become part of an Australian company. In 1946 they stopped production of the Auto-Header (which by then was rather out-of-date though they continued production of the other Sunshine tractor drawn headers with the comb front as well as the tractor draw stripper headers.

I found some pictures of the mag and carb off a diffrent combine and dont know much about Wisconsin motors, would anyone here know the model of the carb and mag, or were i can buy one.

Thanks

My model W owners manual states Bosch magneto and Zenith carburettor. Engine numbers 1487 and below model 94(1/2)AX and serial number above 1487 Zenith 124(1/2)TOX.
See photograph of 1838 KT which appears to have an IHC F4 magneto.

The Model WA and KA had a small tank but the grain was then bagged on the platform and the un-sewn bags were stacked on the platform (up to about 20 or so bags) to be stacked in groups for later sewing up when the paltform was full. The WT and KT were design to have the bags (sacks) sewn as they were filled and placed on a tipping platform on the side to be tipped off in groups. The WT and KT were used in New Zealand where the WA and KA models were very common in Australia. The WB version had a grain tank and was stated as being for the US and Canadian markets only.

Re; NE 1968.

This machine would have been based on the early
ground drive (spur gear drum drive)Sunshine
H V McKay header (horse/tractor drawn).
Would be typical of the first Sunshine Auto Header, which was a world first.
The other SP under disscussion would be based on
a Sunshine No2 PTO header.

Nice find...I'd call it pretty rare ....If you watch "Machinery Of The Past" theres one at the start of every episode and its featured in one of them..
