1958 Case 302 Sidehill Combine.

I posted pictures of this 1958 Case 302 in the implement section already but I thought I would show this Case 302 at a little closer angle. The Case 302 Sidehill is based on the Case 150 level land machine. It has a 14ft header and the Case 300 series tractor engine, as you should be able to see it is a tricycle in configuration.
I pulled this machine out of a tree line this last spring, where it had sat for roughly 20 years. Overall it is in pretty good shape. The reel needs completely rebuilt right now as the wood is very rotted.
I was able to run a little wheat through it in late harvest but it will be this next harvest before it will really be ready to cut any amounts of wheat. I am still trying to find a few header parts for it that someone had taken off years ago. Its seems someone thought this 302 would make a good parts machine at one time. I think it is a good machine to preserve.

Those are some really great pictures.Thanks.That combine is
sure in excellent shape for sitting in a tree line for 20
years. In my area if they sit out for 5-10 years they are about
gone.

The Case 302 is in beautiful condition, considering its 20 years in a
fence row. You are to be congratulated on saving it for a new life.
Now do us a big favor: tell us what you did to get it back in running
condition, so those of us wishing to do the same, can follow your
guidelines. And many thanks for showing us your results.

You must have some mild weather to have been sitting outdoors all those years and have good paint, nice decals and not much rust.
Sure is a beauty!
I couldn't tell from the pictures. Does it have rear wheel assist? No fooling. Case offered a hydraulic powered rear wheel assist on that back wheel. I often wondered if they were the first to offer rear wheel assist on a combine from the factory and not an after-market add on.

Hello
I see your close to me.Families farm is in Rockford,WA.Did you make it to the Rockford fair ?I had my 3 little pull machines there.Love the old Case great pictures.Glad to see someone else saving the old harvesters around the area.I know of some 302 's sitting and rotten away. You might be able to get some parts off them.Judging by your call name you have a 453 IHC too.We still use them on the farm for oil seed crop and peas. They are neat machines aswell. Thanks for the pictures.BlaineF(WA)

My mistake. The engine in a Case 302 is from the 400 series tractors.

As for the rear wheel assist question. This particular 302 does have it, but it needs a new pump to function properly again. That's in the works right now.

And BlaineF, I have seen your pull machines at the Rockford fair in the past. I live just east of Mt. Hope. I am aware of those old case combines sitting outside of Rockford to. I have stopped by and talked to the guy about parts. I have an old 301 that I have got most of my parts off of.
As for the the 453 part in my name, you would be correct I have a 453 it is my favorite combine of them all. I would like to get another 453 if another was to come around my way.

Steve said it all,so ditto to that.Amazing how you did this, thanks for posting and sharing with us,and like Steve said hope to hear more about it

Thanks for the pictures and story! Had no idea Case made such an animal. Rollag, MN had a Harris at this year's show that I understand Case called their own for a couple of years.
I always thought that was Case's only foray into hillside machines. Thanks again for the lesson.

That's interesting. I've never seen a combine that places the driver on the right side of the grain tank. Never seen a single rear wheel, let alone an assisted one. You have a really unique machine.Jim
