EB stands for that well known John Deere engineer "Edible Bean" that designed the square back 45s,55s, etc. Just kidding. It means that that machine was a model 55 set up to do edible beans (as well as other crops) verus a straight model 55. They aslo had corn/soybean versions etc.

Good look-in 55EB, Just never seen one with a 215 head on it. My 95 Corn Special will grone sometimes with a 16ft head in 40 bu beans. Just glad to see a good look-in older combine still work-in an earning her keep. Bandit

Hay Reed A heres an idea for your 55 that will help keep it running cooler in hot weather and solve the dust problem. I put a rotary screen of a 815 IH and it sure makes a diffrence. Bandit

How fast can you go with that setup? What type of cylinder do you have? I can take five 28" rows with mine, but I have to go pretty slow. Mine has a rasp cylinder.

Took out a test plot I had the week before highest was 66.8bu and lowest was 58.3bu, too bad it was only 2 acres.
The 70 acres of beans were my dads, they ran 55bu/ac, we thought they were going to be better but looks can be deceiving. When we started the field they were around 13%, by the time we were done they were down to 9 or less. It was hot all week, Friday it was 85 degrees. Never had any troubles with it running hot, about every 3rd time I'd unload I cleaned the radiator screen.
Only trouble we had was Saturday after the pictures were taken, the temp was over 90, was having some vapor lock problems I believe. Ended up putting on a new fuel pump and points, but don't think it needed them. The fuel pump was original. Don't know why it would go bad after 41 years and only 2700 hours!?!
Don't really know how fast I'm going with this set up, I would say a brisk walk, 3mph or so?? I run 3rd gear and about 4-4-1/2 on the hydro lever. With the 215 head I can take 6 30" rows but have to drive real straight, so I just take 5 and it handles it well. The machine has rasp bars.

Did you set up the combine to run the 215 head, or did you buy it that way? How are you controlling the reel speed? Did you have to add a hydraulic pump? I have an 63 roundback 55 that we are wanting to convert over to running the newer style heads, and was wondering how you did this.

EB stands for edible bean. I put a rotary screen like that on my 95 John Deere from a 403 Int combine and that cured the screen problem. Made it so it would hinge up to clean once or twice a year.

My Dad did the same thing with his 4400 Gas. We used a rotating screen from a Gleaner, it had fins in it so it would turn for self cleaning and a hinge on it so it could swing out if it got pluged. We also used a fan from a 4420 to reverse the air flow in the engine compartment to help reduce to chance for fires. We ran it 6 years that way and it worked GREAT, till the counter shaft went out, and he traded it for a 6620. Great to see the good old machines still running.

When I got the machine it had a 13 ft bean head and 335 3 row30" corn head. Sold those and bought the 215 bean head and 343 corn head. I got the feeder house from the previous owner of the combine.
To run the hyd reel I mounted a hyd pump and reservoir from a White combine on the head and run it off the sickle drive shaft. I have to get out of the cab to adjust the reel speed.
