Well got to go get the AC 60 .Do I haul it or tow it?Going to go get the rims so I can put some tires on.If it don't have wheel bearings can it handle high speeds or is it the back roads home? It's about a 35 mile trip oneway so what do you guys think.BlaineF(WA)

If you tow it don't go over 15 to 20 at most, and stop at least once or twice and grease the wheels good. If you have an offset hitch that's even better. If I remember right the wheels are about 10 feet wide, and loading it on a trailer is very hard. I know its a pain to tow going 15 mph, but if its a nice day just enjoy the ride and who knows you might find and treasure along the way. Bandit

I always backed my 72 on an 8ft wide trailer half a tire hanging off each side. Works great high enough to clear mailboxes.

Blaine,I have towed 2 "A6""s and they both went well.Drove slow, (20mph)took some coffee and enjoyed the day.I greased up the bearings well, and was fortunate to have extra tires, and a good handimans. One I towed,(the good one)about 50 miles,I stopped the first 20 miles alot, and check the bearings,to see if they were hot.And it went well.Good luck

I've towed one farther than 35 miles with no trouble. I would definitely make up an offset hitch. Fill the hubs with grease and check for heat often. I kept adding fresh grease to the hub that had a zerk through out the trip; the other hub I packed full at the beginning and felt for heat every 5 miles. Drove 10-15 mph, had the children along to keep me company and enjoyed the drive.

This offset hitch cannot be stressed enough here, I saw one on a pick up truck and he hooked right on and left the auction site without trouble. The hitch was on the extreme driver's side of the bumper, don't know if it was welded or bolted, as it was years ago. I bought the AC60 that was for parts and it was a wild ride home using the regular center hitch. Make it sturdy.

A equipment jockey around here has made his own rear bumper with hitches in center, right and left. He can pull combines, hay rakes and also pull-type pickers this way.

Kind of late getting in here but just saw the post. I towed a 66 225 miles across most of Oh from WV. Scouted out my route on the way over and jury-rigged a hitch to the far right corner of an F150. Averaged about 30mph and would stop and grease every hour. No problems, but it is never a guarantee that there won't be. Used it every summer for the last 5 years.

Blaine is that the one south of Coeur d'Alene? I looked at that one a couple of weeks ago and decided it was too much work for me to get it home. If you have a deck over trailer, I think the wheels would fit ok....and like others said haul it home on a Sunday morning. BTW, it looked like it didn't have many hours on it, too bad the canvases were left on it to rot...and it spent a lot of time outside to rust up. Make sure to take some pics of the trip!
