This vintage would weigh right at 8000 lbs with the header. Newer ones were a little heavier.

If you try to start it I would bring along a seperate gas can. Just take a hose with the MPT to nipple brass fitting to connect to the fuel pump. Disconnect the fuel line coming from the tank, then attach the nipple with hose. I believe it takes a 1/8" pipe thread fitting.

Then stick the hose into your gas can, just sit it on the back end behind the engine. Pump your fresh gas with the fuel pump to fill the carb and you are ready unless the carb is totally cruddy.

Also before you try to start it take out the plugs and squirt a few seconds worth of WD 40 into each spark plug hole. This will do a couple of things. It will provide a little lubrication for the upper cylinder after years of sitting. It will also serve to increase the compression greatly increasing your chances of the engine continuing to run for the first time.

I always make sure to have a fire extinguisher handy while doing this, have never yet had a problem; but gives me a lot more confidence to have one handy.

If it does start I would be pretty careful and get the oil changed fairly soon, I would be OK just to run a little at fairly low RPM's, but probably don't want to go hot rodding at full throttle until you get fresh oil.

Good luck, Brad

PS I wanted to clarify one thing on the engine starting with the WD 40. After putting the WD40 in the engine, put the plugs in and immediately try to start the engine; do not spin the engine until the plugs are in.

If you don't do this you may have a mess and will also defeat the purpose of the added WD 40 fluid helping to increase your compression and also give you a little more flammable material in each cylinder.

sounds like you have done this before I take it there are quite few of us out there that collect these old girls heck every one around here thinks I am completely NUTS thank God I am not alone, nice tips there only thing I added was a electric fuel pump to the gas can sure saves on the starter, "yes sir" if you are into to Deere's I have info on a 105 and not sure a older 45or 55 in NE Wyoming Tom
