6620 combine info

I am looking to buy a john deere 6620 flat land combine that is under the $10000 mark I've found a few that are promising but I have found a lot of 6620 turbo models and a few 6620 that don't say turbo on the side. Why is this? Are the ones just not turboed? Also, could anyone point me in a direction that would give me the factory specs for the hieght, width, weight and general information for hauling this machine? thanks.

I am surprised you have seen that many non-turbo 6620's. There were a very few of them made without hydrostatic drive and these gear drive combines did not have a turbo on them. The rest of the combine is just the same as any other with the exception of the drive. They are a very good combine that will do a nice job day after day. But if I were you I would try to find one with a hydro. Once you drive one you will never go back to a gear drive. Mike

thanks for the info it clarified a lot and that explains the machine. I do want a combine with a hydro so all of the 6620s that say turbo are hydro and all of them that don't say turbo aren't hydros correct? Thanks a lot Any idea where I could go to get the size specs for these combines for hauling purposes.

There will be basic specifications in any operator's manual or service manual but due to all the wheel and tire combinations your best bet is to get out your tape measure and find out for yourself. Mike

Ive never measured a 6620,but owned 2 and they go under a 14 ft shed,so will a 7720,and 9500.Widths vary.If it has 28L-26 tires or bigger,it'll have axle extensions that set it out wider

From the orginal JD sales brochure:
166 bu grain tank
23.1-26 drive tires (std)
11.00-16 steer tires (std)
82 gal fuel tank

Transport height 12' 8" (grain tank ext down)

Width 12' 4" (less harvesting unit)

Length 26' 1" (less harvesting unit, unload auger in rear position)

Weight 16,266 (base machine)

One other thing on the turbo decal. The Titan II models with the green cab roof do not say turbo on the side. Most likely because they all were turbo models by that time.

These will probably be over your price range, same machine, just a few improvements here and there. Titan II's were made from 1985-to 1988.

You should be able to find a 6620 in decent shape for around that money. I know some are big fans of the 6600's, we had one that I didn't exactly care for, ate hydraulic pumps and was under powered. We went to a 7720 Turbo ('82) That was a lot better machine. Don't know if the 6600 was a lemon or what. Never really did that good of a job either. But the dealer paid through the nose to get it back from us as long as we got another green one and it turned out the XX20's appeared to be a whole lot better.
