I need help.
I was replacing my regulator and coil.
Had to go out of town. Son in law came over and "fixed" it for me. Now it will not start.
Is there a manual on the electrical(ignition system available? Or has anyone experienced this problem and knows the wiring from the coil and points to the regulator? I would have taken pictures of the wiring had I known I would be receiving help.
I really need some pictures to show me where all the wires go from the regulator.
Any help?

Here's a Kohler wiring diagram for the rectifier
regulator if that's what you have. The outer terminals are for the AC wires from the stator and the other is DC volts. You need to use a volt meter and see if you're getting voltage to your coil. If it has points they need to be open and you should have voltage on both terminals with the ignition switch in the on position. Since your battery is Negative grounded the wire from the neg terminal on your coil should to the points or ignition module.
If it has points clean them. Hal

17hp kohler??? That shouldn't be. Are you sure about that or was it a simple typo? Can't be too careful.

If it's the old type, automotive type coil, make sure you get one with an internal resistor.
