Question about coil on bolens

I have the TR10D engine with coil in my bolens (wisconsin engine) - I am still struggling to get it to run right - last night it was actually running pretty good but this morning it was not wanting to run well - starts, then misfires, gets worse then dies - I have the points set correct, clean new spark plug, adjusted carb per book and clean good fuel in it - so now, I am wondering if it might be an issue with the coil? Will a coil gradually go bad or will it just fail so you cannot get it to run at all?

How about the condenser?

I had a similiar problem on my 18 hp.Kohler it was the coil,my coil had the wires on it,so it could have been that also.
