John Deere 316 engine will not turn over

I have John Deere 316, it has a new ignition switch,new battery, previous owners have spliced and re-routed wiring for the ignition. It appears every wire is connected properly. I would like to know where I could download the wiring diagram. The tractor was running after the new switch was installed.

can't help with diagram, but felt like a fool one time on safety switchs. iknow blade off, brake set, and setting on seat. i was trying to start it from the ground after servicing it not on seat. oh well we all have those attacks some time

If the engine will not crank over with the starter you need to see if battery voltage is getting to the starter. If it has a starter solenoid check to see if battery voltage is getting to the solenoid. You will need a volt meter. If it has a key start battery voltage should energize the solenoid when you twist the key to start the engine. Trace the wire from the key start to see where its connected at or near the starter. Be careful when doing this you need use your volt meter to see if any voltage is being fed to the solenoid when someone else makes an attempt to start the engine. There should be a hot wire with battery voltage feeding the key start. You can check that easily too with your meter. If there's voltage at the key start and at the solenoid you need to jumper across the small terminals with a screwdriver. Keep your hands and fingers away from any moving parts when doing this.

Before doing any of this check for safety interlock switches on the tractor and jumper them with some wire with gator clips on them. The seat may have one and on the neutral start. This may the reason why engine won't crank over. Hal
