Kohler oil leak

I've got a 17 hp Kohler on an older AC 917 garden tractor. It's leaking oil from the front shaft. Is this an easy fix to replace the seal?

I am not familiar with that engine.
However kohlerengines.com has excellent manuals online.

When you say front shaft, are you taking flywheel or PTO end of the engine. If flywheel end you would need to pull the engine from the tractor to pull the shrouding, flywheel and replace the seal IF that is what is leaking. If PTO end, all you may need to pull is an electromagnetic clutch if so equipment to replace the seal. If this engine is the one I think it is, a KT-17 plain or Series II, the main case on them is two pieces and you may have a leak where the main cases meet. You WILL NOT know until you start looking for the problem.
