just drug this 155 home going to change the hydralic fluid was wondering how to check it to be sure its full? I found the plug to fill it.

Before you make a big mistake, KNOW THIS. You do not use "hydraulic fluid" in any Colt, Case or Ingersoll tractor. Instead, you use MOTOR OIL and nothing else but.

Drain out whatever is in there using the drain plug on the bottom of the trans-axle. Then... remove the steel hydraulic line that runs from the trans-axle to the inlet side of the pump. Use a large socket to remove the fitting on the trans-axle that the steel line threaded into. This is the suction screen and I can almost guarantee you that it has never been touched and is dire need of cleaning.

If it is really bad, you might consider removing the top cover to see what's going on inside. If you have lots of crap in there, then use some solvent or diesel fuel to flush it out and then flush out the solvent or diesel fuel with some clean motor oil .

Once everything is clean and back together. Fill the trans-axle with 10 qts of a decent quality 20W50 motor oil to within an inch of the underside of the top cover. If you are using this tractor to perform work, then you should be changing the hydraulic oil once each year. Clean oil is what protects the pump and motor from wear and new oil is cheaper than either item by a long shot.
