I just bought Cub Cadet 149 ( hydro) the other nite....
Bought it...drove it on truck....got it home..drove it off....played a little...then stalled it on the street...couldnt even get the hydro release to work to push it...
I had been using the lights and they must have sucked the battery down...

Now I try jump starting it with the truck or charger..even charged the battery overnite...gen spins 6 to 8 times then stops..not very fast....try again...solenoid clicks....tried jumping the solenoid terminals...nothing...cleaned the bat terminals...pulled the plug...has gas..had it choked ..pedal down...pto lever back...

Im cluelessssssss ...pulled the gen. ....checked across the F and A terminals and had 9.1 ohms....was in range ...pulled the brush screws..what are the brushes in these delco gens supposed to look like??

Where should I start??...thought about having the gen checked.....dunno..
Any thoughts appreciated...
Thanks..Dave

How about having the Battery checked...???

Then check your battery cables at both ends to see if they are clean and tight,

the battery is 2 years old....thought it ought to turn even with jumping it??
I cleaned the batt connections....
I wasnt sure if the battery was good or the gen didnt charge when I bought it...older lady had it and said her grandson had to charge the battery to start it before I came...

might just bite the bullet and get one...was kinda budgeting .it came with a snow blade and deck...we might get a blast of snow before spring to try it....

:?: ...huh?? how would you ever jump start a vehicle then.....??

I had the battery tested...was ok...ill have a guy check the gen/starter tom. then see if its that or some wiring in between...

was curious as to how fast the gen/start is needed to spin to start it and why the spin a little then stop with the key still in"start" ...maybe a short somewhere??....

you must maintain at least 8.9 volts for the coil to fire, might try a vole meter on it when cranking to see if thats ok.. lucas

had the starter/gen checked ....burnt armature...needs brushes and bearing/bushing.....i'll just buy a reman..ill get it and see where im at
thanks for the ideas...Dave

Sounds like more than one issue. You probably toasted the starter using a car to jump a tractor.
You sent car amperage through a circut designed for a quarter of the current, no wonder your starter burnt up ! Your culprit is probably a faulty ground, everyone goes after the Positive, while ignoring the Negative. Connect a VOM to positive battery cable, touch probe to negative terminal, read voltage. Snoop around with probe and see if * Voltage Drops * if so, bad ground.

A wimpy ground jacks up resistance which sucks more amperage from battery, this excessive amperage is dissapated as heat, which damages switches and relays. Test Diode, see manual, use caution not to apply power to diode backwards,
to do so burns it right out.

If you must jump start a tractor, disconnect
battery cables, and use jump car battery, engine
off, to recharge tractor battery. A spare tractor battery isn't a bad idea either.

Trailer trash...
If you still have the book that you learned your DC theory from, you should go back & review it. You are putting out bum dope here.

How So ? I've seen more than one toasted starter, where the owner admitted using a car battery. As for grounds, go ahead and ignore them, parts are cheap. As for me, I like my lights bright, and my grounds solid.
