NEW BRIGGS 17.5 HP spark issue

My old Briggs 14.5 i/c engine with damaged crank died last week. I ordered a new BRIGGS 17.5 hp replacement for it. This model superceded the older motor.

After engine swap was complete, fresh 30W oil had filled the dry crank case and all linkages were checked. Elcetrical connections double checked and power to pump and starter were confirmed.

ISSUE: After running for 2 minutes I shut off the engine and NOW it will not spark. There is fuel to the pump and the pump is energised. There is compression. And of course the engine spins but my timing light indicates NO spark on this factory new BRIGGS with less than 2 minutes on it.

This is a mystery!

Please advise... your thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

If there's no fire to the sparkplug I would call
the place where you purchased the new engine and
tell them. Don't do any repairs yourself. Hal
PS; They may tell you to take it to one of their dealers, but call them first.

Do as Hal say's & contact briggs,in the mean time if you changed any connectors in wiring harness to match eng connectors or changed wiring at ign sw,TRIPLE check all connections, disconnect kill lead from ign sw at eng, with a voltmeter or 12v test lite, connected to wiring harness connection that you had connected to ign on eng make sure you don't have +12 on this lead with ign sw in on or run position,if you do have voltage on this lead then you cooked ign coil, which they won't cover under warranty if repair shop picks up on it,also check ign sw connections with an ohmmeter or powered test lite, with sw in stop or off position test from wiring harness kill lead at eng end to frame of tractor, should read 0 ohms with meter or get a lite with powered test lite, also I'm assuming you mean fuel shutoff sol on carb when you say fuel pump,to my knowledge this eng uses an eng driven mech or diaphram pump unless an elect pump was added by tractor mfg or as an after market item.

Forgot to include in 1st reply,if after checking wiring to ign sw and it checks ok,leave ign kill lead disconnected at eng, crank eng,if you have spark now, then you have a safety sw issue on tractor,if still no spark, call briggs.

unplug the wiring harness you plugged into the engine from your tractor. This will isolate the engine form the tractor. If you still do not have fire, take it back to where you purchased it. If you bought it from a mail order place, don't expect much extra help from your local Briggs dealer, if it is a defect in material and workmanship, he will fix it, don't know how fast.
Now, if you had it running, and it died, and you have a wire hooked up wrong and shot 12V into the coil, and burnt that up, that will not be a warranty thing.
The old engine might not have had a solenoid in the carb, did you hook that up correctly on the new one?
If it had some older fuel in the tank and it is a fuel related problem, that is your responsibility.
I am not trying to sound negative, but stating the facts, I hear these kinds of comments on a daily basis, "I just bought this and it is warranty, store said take it to the dealer, he will fix it free, it is under warranty"

I agree with isolating out the engine, from the wiring harness, I'm assuming you did everything right, when you said it ' started right up '

Wouldn't suprize me if the new magnetron was indeed faulty, electronic stuff often works for a few moments, than dies out, either that, or it lasts indefinately. Call the vendor, ask about failures, could be a bad batch, your a computer guy, so I'm sure you've seen items that fail to burn in properly, good luck.
