I have an old JC Penny lawn tractor that runs great but recently shredded the mowing deck, which I'd like to replace. Does anyone know who made it, and where I might turn for a replacement? BTW, it's yellow, a 5 speed electric start, and I have no idea how old, but would guess 70ish?

The ID tag says:

JC Penny Industrial Commercial engine
11/36 Lawn Tractor
Model #JCP CAT 811-5115
Date of Manufacture 6 36534X25 1396

Any help is appreciated!

This one could be difficult,Penneys is not real helpful, even on recent models, and decks are matched to tractor models at mfg.so there is no "universal" deck replacement. Most mfg only give parts support(keep making/stocking)replacement parts for 5-7 yrs after a model is discontinued,If you could post pic it might help id who actually built it.I've wrenched on 3 older Penneys in the past few yrs,1 was pre-MTD merger Yardman,1 was Noma/AMF,1 was Murray so like Sears,Wards and other chainstore/catalog store Penney must have let out bids every so many yrs.For now,SAVE all you can of your old deck,if you can locate something close, you might be able to adapt it by using your old deck as a sample to adapt new one.11/36 was a popular setup in the late 70s,to early 80s so it may be a little newer than you think. From size/hp and layout of Date of Mfg number I would lean toward Murray as 10/36 and 11/36 Models were one of their mainstays. In "Murrayish"6-36534X25"could be model and the 1396 would be the mfg date code.Check the following and post back....Is there a appx 4" rubber disc joint at base of steering column? Is steering column appx 1.5" diameter chrome tube, round at top, square at bottom?Going thru a squarish plastic insert in dash?Does it have separate clutch and brake pedals? If these are the case,it is most likely a Murray mfged unit.Let us know whatcha find.
