Bolens 1254 zenith carburetor leaking

I am new to Bolens tractors. I just acquired a 1254 as a restoration project. It smells like gas even after I close the fuel shut off valve. It starts right up but after I shut it off , I notice fuel leaking out the air intake drain.
Any ideas on what would cause this? As far as I can tell the carb is a zenith L63. I havent found much written on this carb.
Any advice is appreciated!

Something to try. Try shutting the fuel valve off and letting the tractor run for a minute before turning off. If fuel is still leaking out of the drain, maybe your valve is no good. If not, maybe your float is set a little too high or your needle and seat in the float aren't holding. Adding some Sea Foam to the gas might help with a leaky needle and seat.

In addition to what Bh49 wrote, your Bolens has a Wisconsin TRA12D engine.

A GOOGLE search for ''Wisconsin TRA12D'' will turn up lots of sources for a shop manual for that engine, which would be a GOOD thing to have if you intend to keep this tractor and work with it.

Thanks for the reply. I have recently downloaded some manuals and they are helpful. Interestingly enough the carburetor for the 1254-06 model shows a Walbro and the one one this tractor is a Zenith. It looks original to the tractor. non signs of repainting or disassembly. I will continue to do more research or possibly take it to a local guy to be rebuilt.

I appreciate your input.
