Broken 170 John Deere Lawn ractor

Is a John Deere 170 lawn tractor worth fixing up. My son got it cheap for parts and it worked for a while. I think the differential locked up and the gears are wearing thru the case on the bottom. It been in the junk for a while now but does not look bad?? Cleddy

There are plenty of them out there for parts and they do a decent job of mowing. I think I have a 180 out back with a bad motor

Depends if you can wait to find used parts. Bent my Ariens 12" driveshaft and mower gear box. $1800 new. Six months later found a rusted out deck for $100. Labor took less than an hour.

The Peerless manual trans-axle was used in about 5 different JD models during that that time frame.
Wait till one shows up in junk yard for not much $$.
