I have a Tecumseh HH100 in a Wheel Horse that will idle fine but will not speed up. I changed carbs will a good running engine and the Tecumseh will still idle fine but will not speed up. Needing advice. Thanks, Copperhead

Maybe one hole off on the governor linkage, maybe the butterfly is not opening completely to allow full throttle.Try moving the linkage by hand while it is running to see if it will run with the governor open. Just thoughts.

If Old was here he would say to take the drain plug out of the carburetor bowl, turn the gas on and it should continuously flow, a pint in a minute, I think! You might have a restriction in the line, or a cap that's not venting.

Lets look at ignition. Do you have an in-line spark tester? One with a light bulb in it. Try that between the plug and the spark plug wire and watch what happens to your spark when it starts to die.

Is the engine points and condenser or is it on electronic ignition? Some of the older Tecumseh electronic ignition parts are NLA.

I probably should add that there are some Youtube videos showing alternate ways to work around no longer having OEM ignition parts.

I would change the spark plug, it's a cheap and easy thing to try. But don't throw the old one away if it doesn't fix it!

You ruled the carb out so check the flywheel key.

Sounds like fuel delivery, or maybe a governor adjustment.

Moving the throttle will cause it to spudder and most of the time die, but sometimes you can open it wide open and the rpms will not increase. It cracks up fine, idles fine, just will not take more gas and increase rpms without sputtering and dying. I've tried this on two different carbs. One I took off of a good running machine.

I'm thinking we need more info:

Does it die? Does it sputter and die? or does it just run one speed? Does moving the hand throttle cause any movement at the throttle shaft on the carubretor? Does moving the hand throttle cause any movement where the throttle cable attaches to the engine? Does the linkage to the throttle shaft on the carburetor move freely where the lever on the other end goes into the engine?
