1200 cub cadet

I got a 1200 cub cadet out of the weeds behind my in-laws house. It ran when parked but clutch was (and still is) stuck. Turns over well but its flooding almost instantly. I soaked the carb for two weeks put new gaskets needle and seat in it. Any ideas why it would flood in three or four turns. It has decent spark but it could be better. Im going to put points and condenser in it this week to see if it gets better. The spark is blue but smaller than I think it should be. Any ideas on my problem and any good sources for a service manual for it? It came with a snow blower a tiller and a great condition deck. Im also looking for a creeper gear but Im on a budget.

Carburetor: Does the float actually 'float'? It doesn't slosh when you shake it, does it? Pour a little gas in a cup and drop it in. let it sit for 1/2 hour or so. Then see if it is still floating.

Did you actually replace the needle valve or just try to clean it up? If you took the needle seat out, did you blow back through the inlet to make sure no trash was above it?

Since you said it came out of the weeds, you may need to take the carburetor apart again and see if more trash has washed down from the tank.

I agree.

The float is used but it passes the float test. Yes, I did replace the needle and seat. I cant see any trash in the tank and I did flush it out. Its got a good fuel supply to the carburetor, but it might be worth cleaning that out again. I was looking at it this morning. Where is the condenser located on this thing? Amazon sells a tuneup kit for these things that contains a fuel pump a carburetor and so forth naturally theyre made in China. Could this be a decent way to go?

You can download the Kohler engine service manual and user manual at the kohler website. Look under classic engines.
Did you put in a new spark plug? The points can get crud on the contacts and not spark very well. Clean gently with an ignition file, then with a folded dollar bill. Initial point gap should be .020 when the points are fully open.

The online carburetors may or may not have the correct brackets to hook up to the throttle and choke controls. Look your carburetor over carefully and then look at the online picture before ordering.

Good evening, jr1983 and all: Not really my discussion, but, I understand that a dollar bill is good because it will clean ordinary dirt from the points, and it usually will not tear when you pull it through. Just my humble opinion....

The condenser mounts to the ignition coil. I can't remember where the coil is. It may be on top of the engine. Earlier Cub Cadets had it on the left side lower and to the rear of the carburetor.
The wire lead on the condenser connects to the (-) side of the ignition coil. This is the wire that goes to the points, in case someone has swapped the coil wires. The case has to ground to the engine.

That china tune up kit sounds like you will be getting some stuff you don't need. The main issue is whether you get a good condenser, points and sparkplug. I am not fond of Chinese sparkplugs. I replace a lot of bad ones where I work.

but its flooding almost instantly.

The Condenser has NOTHING to do with "flooding".

The [b:c1a2cea7cc]230722-S[/b:c1a2cea7cc] is located on one leg of the mount tab of the Ignition Coil. The wire is connected to the negative (-) terminal, of that coil.

I bought a 1250 in the same condition your 1200 is in. Hadn't run in years and the carb was filled with rust and goo. I looked close at the carb and it was a cheap after market unit. Bought one of the cheap China made units off Ebay for $12-$13 worked fine after a few adjustments.

Make sure you buy the right one - I ended up with two because the first one had the throttle set up the wrong way - started to adjust it to work the correct way and ruined some screw heads in the attempt and went ahead and bought a second one. Now I have a parts unit with extra float, needle valve and gaskets.
