More 318 questions.

I was finally able to start my 318 today. It was firing on one cylinder at first. I think it was firing on both cylinders when I revved it up but I'm not sure. What is the best brand of spark plugs to use? The tractor serial number is M00318X480143. I don't know if the engine is the original one. It shows about 650 hours on the hour meter but I don't know if it is working. I'm sure that they have been hard hours judging by the worn out tines on the tiller that came with it.

This tractor has a #44 front end loader on it. When I engage the front PTO to run the hydraulic pump for the loader the engine dies. It doesn't stop immediately like the pump is locked up. I don't know yet if the pump may be locked up but the clutch is slipping or if it is killing the engine spark. I don't hear any noises or squealing. Also how do I get the grill out of it so I can access the pulleys behind it?

Spark plugs... NGK TR5

Engine is probably shutting down when PTO is engaged due to seat switch or seat switch wiring issues, other wiring issues (including PTO switch area), or defective ''time delay module''.

To remove grille, pull forward at the top of the grille.

I hadn't thought of the seat switch. The seat is off at this time. I will bypass the switch temporarily tomorrow if it isn't snowing too hard to work
outside.

Thanks.

I bypassed the seat switch and the tractor kept running when I turned on either PTO switch. The engine did slow down a little bit when I turned them on but it didn't stall like it did before. It is only running on the left cylinder. I pulled the right spark plug and it is completely fouled. I will get some new ones. It does have compression. I think the main reason for the fouling is because the previous owner had a nearly 3 feet long resistor wire on it. I will replace both of them with copper core wires.

When I turn the front PTO on the front clutch doesn't engage but does slow down the engine just a little bit. It appears that the hydraulic pump for the loader is seized up. I took the grill out and I can't turn the belt pullies by hand and nothing moved when I turned the PTO switch on. I don't know if the clutch is bad or if there might be a bad fuse. The cold weather drove me back in the house for the rest of the day.

How hard is it for a fat man to get the hudraulic pump off? I don't have an indoor shop to work in and winter has finally arrived here.

Sorry, I cannot answer your question, as I have never dealt with that 318 accessory (loader).
