John Deere 212

Well, I finally got the JD 212 running again . A new ignition coil and condenser fixed it ! As well as filing and regapping the points . The wiring harness is really butchered and I found a used one identical to it on line . It had a few missing connectors as well as a slightly melted plug ! Seller wanted $45.00 for it . I offered $25.00 and sell counter offered $40.00 . I offered $30.00 and never heard back from him . Mower runs good , but really needs a better wiring harness ! I'm surprised after looking at some hot melted wires that it hasn't burnt yet ! Wires was cut every where . There is a off / on toggle switch that turns the ignition coil on ( positive side ) and off , A push button that activates the starter and another off on toggle switch that turns the head lights on and off . No circuit breaker ( other than the original factory one and probably bypassed more than likely ) or fuse what so ever in the bypassed wiring mess .Why it was done this away I don't know !Is a new wiring harness available anywhere ? If so , how much ? Only problem that I have now is the engine pto sheave isn't turning the belts ! See other post .

Thanks ,
Whizkid

I've got pieces and parts of a wiring harness somewhere.
I'd recommend paying the $40 if it was a complete wiring harness.
Remember that you are working toward the revival of a 40-year-old unit.
