I have the Service Manula. Can a compression test be run on this engine?

I don't understand what's going on here, the O.P. has a manual and is still asking the question, then the reply is ''Yes it can''.

Some guys wrap a rope around the flywheel so as to spin it in reverse rotation and give it a yank and check the compression while it's spinning backwards to defeat the ACR, IIRC, 60 to 80 psi as a result of this is considered ''good''.

The Crankcase Vacuum test shown in the service manual is a great way to test the condition of a Kohler engine. The U tube Manometer is cheap and easy to make with a scrap of board, some 1/4 clear vinyl tube, a rubber stopper to push into the dipstick hole and seal, and a glass of water with your choice of food coloring dye. Make sure there's at least a foot of length between the two runs of tube to check the distance the water gets pulled. And be careful you don't pull the colored water into the engine crankcase.
It's tough to get any kind of usable test with a compression tester if the engine has the Automatic Compression Release.
