Deck drive blades not turning on Deere model 212

Good afternoon: Mower deck has number M00664X. I was mowing ok, hit some small tree sprouts, deck blades quit turning. With everything shut down, I can reach under the deck, and turn either blade backward by hand, but not forwards. Pretty sure a belt is jammed up somewhere, can anyone remind me how to remove the deck from my model 212? I seem to recall it is pretty easy, with a few lynch pins, snap rings, etc. but my mind is not working and it is 98 degrees F here. Can't find my books on this critter either... any suggestions appreciated.

Further to my own post: I did discover the belt from the PTO clutch to the deck is jammed in the idler assembly at the engine. This is the idler that is adjusted by the T-handle below the tractor's front grill. wish I had my manuals, or had access to Deere's drawings of these parts. Any comments/assistance appreciated.

This link should get you to the JD parts catalog which has the pics you need. You may have to create a login but it's easy and free.

If the belt has just jumped out of the pulleys and jambed you should be able to loosen that t-handle and reroute it. But, the belt is often broken internally and may need replacement.

Good afternoon, kencombs: I removed both idlers from the adjuster that has the T-handle below the grill. With the idlers out, I could the easily slip the belt off the deck and engine pulleys. Belt is bad, I plan on contacting local Deere dealer Monday. Thanks for the reply.

Good afternoon, further reply to my own thread: Yesterday,(Thursday) I picked up my new belt, installed today. While mowing around the front yard, engine slowed down, quit. Would start but barely ran. Short story, I removed the air filter, tried again, it started. WELL, WHAT is wrong with my air filter??? We shall see, probably needs a new thread as a new problem.

You can view the parts catalog for FREE without a login needed at https://partscatalog.deere.com/jdrc/

The mower deck is listed separately I think you would have a ''39'' or ''47''.

The Operator's Manual can be bought or downloaded for FREE at https://techpubs.deere.com/en-US/Search/Equipment

You have to drill down through a couple of menus, and the ''FREE'' option isn't real clear but it CAN be done.

If the belt continues to ''jump'', the pivot point for the swinging idler arm gets worn allowing the pulleys to get out of line.

Bending the arm MAY help for a while, the ultimate repair is to make and weld in a new pivot pin and the sleeve at the end of the idler arm. Add a grease zerk (which it should have had from the factory).

Good afternoon, all: The 212 Deere is working ok now. Cutting grass with new deck belt installed successful. Air filter seemed to keep engine from running, I found I had a new-in-box air filter element in the barn. I installed that, all seems good now.
