12.5 BS vertical shaft engine torque?

Forum,
Have been working on an old Toro riding lawn mower. I had to replace the stator. What is the torque spec for the flywheel? Second question is if the torque is too loose could that cause the flywheel key to shear? Any and all thoughts are welcome.

I have never torqued a flywheel. Just give it a short hit with the impact. In order to torque the flywheel. You need the special tool to hold the flywheel from
turning. I have them for the small 3.5 to 5hp engines. Didn't bother with getting the tools for the larger engines since the impact works just as good and simpler
and faster. Not being tight enough can cause a key to shear. All my years as a Snapper dealer I only ever saw one 12.5 hp shear a key. He was mowing weeds well
over six foot tall. Killed it several times before he sheared the key.

ea, I just smack 'em down with the impact, too. If I was to guess, probably 60-80 ft./lbs.

Thanks for the replies. I will torque the flywheel to about 60 ft lbs.
Will come to this site again with questions.
