Kohler flywheel attachment

I don't know when, but it was probably because it is possible to snap the end of the crank off if you really hammer on the nut trying to remove it. (Or if you are hammering on the shaft trying to remove the flywheel.) I mean, nobody uses a puller like they are supposed to, do they?

There is a Youtube video where they guy drills a hole in the crank and taps threads so he can bolt the flywheel back on after that happened.
 
I know on some Briggs engines it made a difference if the engine was electric start or recoil start.
