Carb Question

I have a Cub Cadet 173cc self-propelled mower from 2006 and ordered a replacement carb for it but the fuel inlet on the carb is smaller than the one on the original carb and it leaks when I try to clamp the fuel hose on it. The new carb came with a smaller hose that will fit the inlet but is not as long as original larger hose to reach the tank. How can I fix that? I tried putting the smaller hose into the larger hose and it doesnt leak but the mower will not start. Is there a special reducer type of connector that I can get to properly connect the two hoses or another remedy? I put a new spark plug in and I think the gaskets for the new carb are in proper order, it doesnt appear to leak anywhere but the fuel inlet when the larger hose was attached of course.

Maybe the carburetor wasn't the problem in the first place, what made you think it was? When I am troubleshooting an engine I use this primer bottle, I can run an engine with a completely plugged fuel system by carefully dribbling fuel in the throat, confirming that I have a fuel system problem. Possibly if you buy a piece of smaller fuel line that fits the carb you can stretch it on the fitting where it goes.

You can get hose barbs with different sized ends on them. Hardware or auto parts store should have them. Most likely will need a 1/4" to 5/16" barb.

Sorry for the large pic. I grabbed the first pic I found.

When I have trouble getting a small hose on a barb I stick a needle nose plier in the end of the hose, and pull apart on the handles. If it's quality hose you can stretch it some.
