transaxle issue

Well I am a Case guy!! Somehow I ended up with a 22hp(?) Toro 500,,,, supposedly has a Husky Trans now. My issue is when the
lever is put in Neutral, is does not stop moving. Usually just goes to reverse. Lifting foot off clutch doesn't stop it ! Some
back & forth on the lever, it may go to neutral... I tighened all linkage joints. appears to be from inside the rear unit ??
Any ideas ? Thanks

There is a good chance you have the wrong belts on that mower, if it won't stop when you lift your foot from the 'go' pedal. I am assuming the pedal you refer to is on the right side of the mower, with the brake pedal above that.(For some reason MTD chose to put their brake pedal there. I have heard of people with 2 left feet, but never heard of people with 2 right feet.) I know you called it a Toro, but yes, your mower is actually a MTD,

If it does have the correct belts, check that the belt guides around the engine pulley are within 1/8-3/16 of the pulley itself. (Its pretty common for people to bend those guides away from the pulley when replacing belts and then the belt drags on the pulley and keeps everything turning when they try to stop.)

See my post to Geo above about my opinion of non oem belts on a MTD vari-drive.

If the forward/reverse shifter is in the fender, the linkage to that transmission is usually adjustable. You just pull the pin, (its usually a spring pin) move the shifter to neutral, shift the transmission to Neutral, then adjust the link so the pin holes line up.
I am thinking there were some models with the forward/reverse shifter either between your feet or on the Console, I am sure those linkages are adjustable as well, I'm just not familiar with them.

T.R.K. You are correct on all. 2 pedals on right, shifter in fender. yes on MTD. So PO changed tranaxle. said he got a used Husky. You think that would be a direct fit/match. both prolly MTD. It looks Ok. just cannot hit neutral most of time. AND the rod for braking is missing !!
