Gravely 8123-g with loader.

Was visiting the neighbor, he was trying to get a Gravely 8123-G going.
It cranks but would not start. I determined it had no spark.
It was parked in a shed with no room to work around it (or even to get a good look).
I don't know the Kohler 301, but was fearing the points were buried under the fly
wheel. When I got home I looked it up.
Please confirm: Points are inside a box cover below the exhaust pipe at crankshaft level, left side?
So remove two screws and the box cover, file and clean the point and away it goes?

Also it has a fuel pump? Is that a mechanical pump, or a crankcase pressure pump?
And also the plastic gas tank has a fuel shutoff in the fwd right corner of the tank.
I didn't see that when I was there and how do you reach it? From front, outside of frame or inside?

If we pull it out so we can get to it that would be great. pushing it back in would be not so great.
The loader is up, and I don't know what is keeping it up, so danger!

I think he want to sell it. An 8123 with loader, what do they sell for?
Paint is pretty good. I forget if it has a mower deck. My memory oh no.

Yes.

Looking at the breaker point box the mechanical fuelpump (if present) will be to the right of the breaker box. There's another rounded cover between the point box and the fuelpump, it covers the camshaft gear.

First off for Safety sake, cut a piece of 2" angle iron to fit from the bottom of the cylinder to its extended length and secure it with a muffler clamp to prevent the loader from falling down, on large loaders we put one on each side, but one should do. The fuel pump is mechanical and driven off a lobe on the cam shaft. I would suggest removing the spark plug and check for spark by grounding the plug and rolling over the engine. You can't easily check the compression as this motor has a compression relief to aid in starting. The only way to check compression is to run the motor backwards, it's not an easy thing to do. How ever you can put a small amount of oil in the cylinder and turn over the engine to get it down on the top of the rings, this will temporarily increase the compression as having tried to start it with no success the cylinder walls are probably dry. The manual in the other post should be a great help. As to is value, depends on location and condition of the tractor, such as running or not. I don't need the tractor, but would love to have the loader for one of my six lawn tractors. Post back and lets us know if you need more help or your success.
